Mathias Catholic Hospital was established in 1991 by the JMJ Sisters in a small structure through the instrumentality of the late Bishop of then Sunyani Diocese, Most Rev. James Kojo Owusu. Since then the JMJ Sisters have continued to manage the hospital. It is the only hospital in the Pru East District and serves as a major referral point for about 10 public and private health institutions within the surroundings districts The hospital has a bed capacity of 205 being handled by staff strength of 401 currently. The hospital is under the political administration of the Pru East District Assembly of the Bono East Region of Ghana

The mental health as part of our activities for education and awareness creation for the month of May carried out the following activities with the theme: ‘’ mental wellbeing for all; turning awareness into action” Below is the activities carried out with pictures. On the 7th May 2026, the team went to Christ-like FM to start awareness creation on Maternal Mental Health which lasted for about 45minutes. On 8th May 2026, the Mental Health Team went to the HPT/DM clinic for Mental Health Education. On the same day, the team met with teachers of R/C Primary School block A for education on Maternal Mental Health. The team met the Tailors and Dressmakers Association on 13th May, 2026 for Maternal Mental Health education and its related issues. On 19th May 2026, the team had time with the District Health Directorate for education of Staff Mental Health and Welfare. We proceeded to the Yeji Camp Prison on 22nd May, 2026 for Education on Staff Mental Health and Welfare with the officers. On the same day 22nd May, the team successfully had time with Faith Assemblies of God Church Yeji at about 8:00pm for Maternal Mental Health Education. Again, on 24th May, 2026 the Mental Health Team met the Prison In-mates for Mental Health Education at about 3:00pm. Finally, on 31st May 2026, the Mental Health Team went to the St. Bernard Catholic Church, Yeji for education on Maternal Mental Health. The team is to have our planned activities with Mathias Catholic Hospital Staff, Yeji Senior High Technical School Staff and District Assembly Staff on Staff Mental Health and Welfare.
